Wastewise Nomination Responses

Room 4 have written responses to our Nomination for Wastewise School 2015. They are so good I wanted to share them with you.



To whom it may concern,
 Hello my name is James, I am a year 5 from Halsey Drive School in Auckland. I am writing to tell you why Halsey Drive School should be the Wastewise school of 2015. I think Halsey Drive School is the waste wise school of 2015 because Halsey Drive School, encourages good Wastewise Attitudes. For example we have smart lunch box awards and WasteWise Wednesdays. This encourages no tetra packs and no gladwrap. Halsey Drive School is also a WasteWise school because Halsey Drive School has a WasteWise team. Our team are the the WasteWise monitors at this school, they even organised seniors to sort the rubbish

 My name is Kaelem and I’m a Year 5 student at Halsey Drive Primary School in Auckland. I am writing to convince you that we should win the Wastewise School Award. I think we should win because we try to keep the school clean. We do this by having Wastewise Wednesdays on which every Wednesday there is a theme like having no juice boxes and there is a prize to the winning class so the children get encouraged to be more wastewise. Also we have wastewise monitors to check the school and pick up litter around the school so we can minimize rubbish because our wastewise team counts and sorts the rubbish in the school. Another reason is that we have people with smart lunchboxes which reduces rubbish from flying out into the school and there are rewards to encourage people to use smart lunchboxes In conclusion I hope these points have showed you that Halsey Drive School is a Waste Wise school and should win.  My name is Therese. I am a year 5 student.I go to Halsey Drive school. I am writing because I want to explain why Halsey Drive School is a clean and green and why we should win the competition. We are the best waste wise school because we have waste wise monitors that cack and clean the school. We do it because we want to keep the school clean, green and healthy. Another reason why we are the best the best waste wise school because we learn about how to reduce reuse recycle.We do this because we want the kids in our school to know about how to be a clean green school and how to have a smart lunch box. We did this by asking a person from the Auckland Council he taught us how to not waste things and he taught us how to reduce, reuse and recycle. Another reason why Halsey drive school is the best because we encourage little kids in our school to pick up rubbish and have a smart healthy lunch box. We do this by creating waste wise videos and every Wednesday we do a competition for the whole school by checking if we have any glad wrap or tetra packets.  My name is Neel and I am a year five at Halsey Drive School. I am writing to convince you that Halsey Drive school is the best waste wise school of 2015. I think that Halsey drive school is the best waste wise school because we encourage to not bring tetra packs or gladwrap. For example, we have waste wise Wednesday where you have to try not to have waste in your lunch box such as glad wrap and chip packets. We also create videos and write explanations to because we want to have a clean, green school environment and we want to take good care of it for future students. I think Halsey Drive school is the best waste wise school because we reduce reuse and recycle our wasty. For example, we had a waste wise session with Ron from Auckland city council. We have a waste wise team who encourage the school to reduce waste reuse materials and recycle items like paper, by encouraging good attitudes towards waste wise by giving smart lunch box rewards. My name is Arya and I’m a Year 5 student from Halsey Drive School. I am writing this letter to explain why Halsey Drive School should be the wastewise 2015 school winners Firstly our school has Wastewise Wednesdays which means every Wednesday there is a Theme which reduces rubbish. For example smart lunchboxes,no tetra packs,no glad wraps and no nude food. The winning class gets popcorn to encourage kids not to bring rubbish. We should also be the winning Wastewise school because classes which are near gardens clean the gardens so the gardens are clean and green. Another reason is some classes make videos or raps and share them at assembly so kids can learn more about being Wastewise. In conclusion Halsey Drive School should be the winning Wastewise school because our school have set up initiatives to encourage kids to be wastewise From, Arya Parab

Firstly we are a good Wastewise school because we have Wastewise Wednesdays we don’t bring,Nude food,tetra packs and glad wrap so we have a smart lunchbox.We are clean and we pick up litter from our environment and put it into the bin. Another reason why we should be Waste Wise school of the year is that we have litter monitors that pick up rubbish every afternoon at their area.They pick up rubbish like juice boxes,wraps and packets.They pick up rubbish so the school doesn't have litter.Our class also made raps and videos to encourage our school to be a clean and green school Hopefully you agree that Halsey Drive School should win and are the best Wastewise school in 2015.  Hello. My name is Harini and I am a year 5 student at Halsey Drive School. I am writing to tell you why Halsey Drive School should be the wastewise school for 2015. Firstly we should be the wastewise school for 2015 because we have Wastewise Wednesday which encourages students to bring a smart lunch box. On Wastewise Wednesday we don’t bring rubbish in our lunch boxes like gladwrap, tetra packs and chippie packets.We also make videos to make students understand what rubbish does to our environment. We also have an enviro blog. Yes! We have a blog full of information about the environment and smart lunch boxes. Are you now thinking that only us students are looking after and learning about the environment? Well, of course not! We have teachers to help us. Also we have special people like the Auckland council who come and teach us lots of things about the environment. We especially enjoy it because it is very funny.  Hi my name is Isaac and I go to Halsey Drive School in Auckland.I am writing to you so I persuade you that Halsey Drive school deserves to win because we have made a big impact by having less rubbish than last year. I think Halsey Drive school should win because wastewise school of the year because we had tried really hard from last year to now.We have improved by having less glad wraps and other rubbish because there is a rule not to bring glad wraps to school so there is less litter and so we can have a healthy environment.Also we recycle paper.  My name is Tanisha and I am a year 5 student. I go to Halsey Drive School in Auckland. I’m writing to you about the waste wise competition to be the wastewise school of the year. We deserve to win because we care about our environment by picking up rubbish and not littering. We have waste wise teams that separates rubbish and some that come to our classes every Wednesday. Every Wednesday we are not allowed to bring different types of rubbish such as glad wrap,tetra packs and juice box. At lunch we get a little pieces of paper where you write your name down and put it in the box when you have a smart lunch box or when you pick up rubbish. Then at assembly they announce who gets the prize this encourages kids to have good attitudes about keeping our environment clean. Thank you for reading my waste wise letter.  My name is Chris and I am a Year five at Halsey Drive school, Auckland. I am writing to you to explain why Halsey Drive school should the waste wise school of 2015. We take good care of our school environment by picking up rubbish and not littering.We also encourage others to use containers and not use chippie packets by making videos.Our class have been making raps to show why we don’t litter. We also take good care for our school by having smart lunch boxes.Each week on Wednesdays our lunch boxes get checked to see if we have smart lunch boxes.Each week we cannot bring one type of rubbish like juice boxes or glad wrap.Also kids in yellow jackets who will give you a ticket if you have a smart lunch box.  My name is Heila and I’m a year 5. I live in Lynfield,Auckland and go to a school called Halsey Drive School. I’m writing to tell you why we should be the Waste Wise 2015 school winners. Firstly we should be a Waste Wise school because our school has Waste Wise Wednesdays-ie no tetra packs,no gladwrap,no nude food,so we have a smart lunch box and no chippie packets. We also make environment videos to encourage being Waste Wise. In my class we wrote enviro raps about Reduce,Reuse,Recycle and also about how our school is a clean,green school.Then we created a video. Another reason we should win is because we encourage students to use containers not chippie packets. When children have Smart Lunch Boxes the Waste Wise Team give that child a ticket. The child puts the ticket in the box and at assembly if that child gets chosen they will get a reward. This is a way to encourage students to have a Smart Lunch box. We also take good care of our school by not littering. Littering is a big problem at schools but not in our school because we have Litter Monitors and Senior Waste Wise Monitors. The Litter Monitors go to their area before morning tea to clean any rubbish that is on the ground and each class has their own area and Litter Monitor. The Senior Waste Wise Monitors sorts,the rubbish every afternoon so rubbish is recycled and goes correctly. Thank you for reading my letter.
